GP Retirement
It is with sadness that we will be
saying 'goodbye' to Dr Davies as he is
retiring from the Practice after 34 years of caring and dedicated
service. He
will be hanging up his stethoscope on 1st April 2010. We wish him
well in his
retirement.
We welcome two new female part-time doctors - Dr Karthikeyan and
Dr Robbins. Dr Davies' patient list will be shared between them.
Saturday
Morning Surgeries
From 27th March 2010, Ashby Health Centre will be undertaking
a pilot
Saturday morning emergency surgery
for an approximate 10 month period.
This surgery will be for emergencies on
the day and is designed to provide a
weekend service to our registered patients
who feel they have a problem that
cannot wait until we open on Monday
morning. It provides a local and more
convenient alternative to the Out of Hours
Service for the duration it is open.
Only 1 Doctor will be present on site, so
there will be a limit to the number of
patients that can be seen. Doors will
open at 8.00 am and it will operate on a
first come, first served basis.
The surgery is NOT for dealing with
routine repeat prescriptions, routine or
ongoing medical problems or for any
non-emergency care. When the surgery
is
deemed full, any further emergency cases
will have to be referred on to the
Out of Hours Service (Loughborough Walk-in
Centre and telephone triage
service).
There will be the opportunity to request an
urgent home visit for patients who
are clinically housebound, terminally ill
or where the medical condition results in
a patient being too poorly to attend the
surgery. All visit requests will be
reviewed by the duty doctor.
This service has been set up due to patient
demand and feedback from our
annual patient survey and to provide a more
local and convenient service to
our patients.
If the ten month pilot is deemed to be a
success by the Primary Care Trust,
then it is hopeful that the service will
continue.
Swadlincote
Walk-in Centre
The Swadlincote Walk-in Centre
is open Monday-Friday from 6.30pm to 10pm
and is closer for most of our patients than
the Loughborough Walk-in Centre.
It is also open on Saturday and Sunday
mornings from 9am to 10.30am;the
same hours apply to Bank Holidays too.
The service is led by Nurse Practitioners,
although GP's are always available to
be consulted by them if necessary. They can
deal with a whole range of minor
illness and minor injuries including
children's problems.
Examples of the sort of conditions which
can be treated there includes cuts,
bruises, minor burns and scolds, minor head
injuries and medical conditions of
the type normally dealt with by your GP.
Emergency contraception is also
available.
Most patients are dealt with by the staff
there and do not need to be referred
on. No appointment is necessary and
you don't need to telephone ahead as it
is a Walk-in Centre.
The Walk-in Centre is located at
Swadlincote Health Centre, Civic Way,
Swadlincote, DE11 0AE which is on the A514
into Swadlincote, opposite the bus
station and just a stone's throw away from
Sainsbury's supermarket.
Car parking
is free.

Summer 2008
New Opening Hours
With immediate effect the Health
Centre will now be open at 7.30am
every day. This means that the
telephone lines will be open at
7.30am as well as the building.
Web bookable appointments for the
same day will also be available from
7.30am.
Both Dr Foulds and Dr
Tailor will regularly begin their
surgeries at 7.30am with the other
doctors varying their starts between
8am and 8.30am.
In addition, on a Wednesday evening
there will be a late surgery from
6pm until 8pm.
This surgery will be pre-bookable in
advance. It is NOT a walk in
surgery.
Changes to the
Appointment system
At Ashby Health Centre we have
always tried to make sure that
anyone who needs an appointment can
get one on the day they need it.
However we realise that there are
many occasions when patients do not
need to see the doctor urgently and
so would like to book an appointment
to fit in with other commitments.
Therefore we have made some changes
to the appointments system with
immediate effect.
When patients ring to make an
appointment you will now be asked if
you wish to book ahead or if you
need an appointment today.
If you choose to book ahead you will
be able to book with the
doctor of your choice
(subject to availability) at any
time Tuesday to Friday. However this
means that on any particular day, a
certain number of appointments will
have been pre-booked, and so
when you want an appointment for the
same day you may not be able to
specify your choice of doctor.
But as we do now, we will always
make sure that if you feel your
condition is urgent for today you
will be seen on the day.
If you want a book ahead appointment
you can ring at any time of the day
and so hopefully this will alleviate
some of the problems of the busy
phone lines first thing in the
morning.
We hope that this will be an
improvement for our patients and
your comments on the changes are
welcome.
