Please note, the Travel Clinic is for Ashby Health Centre patients only.  We are unable to offer this service to anybody who isn't registered with us.

April 2007

Our travel clinic provides advice and vaccinations (where required) for our registered patients who are travelling abroad. Unfortunately we can't offer this service to patients of other surgeries.

In order to obtain travel advice and immunisations all travellers should:

  1. Collect from the health centre or download ALL these three documents:

    i) a Pre-travel vaccination disclaimer form

    ii) a General Travel Advice leaflet

    iii) a Pre-Travel Health and Vaccination Assessment form

  2. Return the completed forms to the Health Centre. Please give us as much notice as possible, at least 8 weeks prior to departure is ideal.

  3. Ring to arrange an appointment at least 3 days after submitting the forms (this will allow the treatment room nurses to assess the form and decide how long an appointment will be needed).

It takes time to give a course of vaccinations and they take a few days after the end of the course to become fully effective Therefore please book into the travel clinic well before you are due to travel.  Eight weeks or more is best. However we will always try and fit you in although there may be occasions where we just can't do this. In these instances you will need to visit a commercial travel clinic.  A number are listed at the bottom of this page.

Please note that there will be charges if you need any of the following because they are not available on the NHS;

  • Rabies
  • Yellow fever
  • Malaria
  • and a few other illnesses which will be notified at your appointment.

Also there are some obscure vaccines which we do not administer, and in this case it would be the responsibility of the patient to find out where they can get these. For example: Japanese Encephalitis and Tick-borne Encephalitis.

The following web site contains lots of useful information for people travelling abroad: www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk

If we are unable to fit you into our travel clinic due to a lack of time these are some commercial travel clinics in the region who may be able to help:
